The first tenet of beekeeping is for the beekeeper to work with the bees and not against them. The major tasks which are performed in relationship to the annual brood cycle and the colony population are summarized in the diagram below.

In conjunction with the tasks summarized above it is essential that development times for the worker, queen, and drone are known.
